Putting Yourself At The Top of Your Day: Self Care

I heard someone say once “you should never put yourself first…rather…put others before yourself”. Interestingly, that sounds good, but it is not. From a health care, mental, emotional and spiritual standpoint, choosing self-care or should I say, self-caring for oneself is fundamentally the best way to maintain a healthy balance in your life. Always choosing to meet that incredibly close deadline or even caring for a love one can place your mind, body, spirit and soul in a place of unrest, stress and anxiety. These three are extremely unhealthy. Some people are under the impression that an unhealthy diet is the only thing that will cause you to live an unhealthy lifestyle but trust me…although that may have some truth in it - the lack of self-care is at the top of the list as well. So, you may ask, “what is your point Dr. Sharpe”?

Here’s my point. Putting yourself at the TOP of your day and allowing yourself to spend time with God for guidance and direction and time for yourself before you face your extremely busy day – you need to empower yourself, prepare creative yet healthy meals –evaluate your eating management plan, exercise and just give yourself a few moments to breathe will help you to live a long, healthier and happy life. Once you begin to take a few minutes (especially in the mornings) to give yourself self-care…you will experience a better day than your usual and you will be able to help all those people you so desire to help on their journey and overcoming their challenges in life!
